One of the great things about bicycle touring is the opportunity it gives you to slow down and see what’s going on around you. Some of the coolest things you’ll ever see, you’ll see from the saddle of a bicycle.
The old buildings, the decaying infrastructure, the weird signs, the eccentric architecture all add to the bicycling experience. Most of these wonderful artifacts get missed when you’re whizzing past in a car.
And sometimes, we cyclists get in a hurry, too, and miss the all the delightful strangeness that surrounds us.
I’ve made a point in my touring to go slow. I stop a lot to take in my surroundings and I keep my camera handy.
